Corinna School

This project is a recent refurbishment of a formula block (a typical Wellington 70's primary school building) at Corinna School and is an example of the many weathertightness remediation projects undertaken by the practice. Not only is it important to eliminate the weathertightness issues, but consideration also need to be given to improving the buildings thermal performance and avoiding any potential moisture issues.

It is also an opportunity for design. Here the deletion of a poorly designed vestibule allowed us to create a canopy that expresses the schools culture that provides a memorable sense of arrival and identity. In the teaching spaces colour and material create different areas for different activities. There are places to gather, retreat and make inside and out. The colour design creates calm spaces with a very successful acoustic design.
